Ikat warp dyeing workshop

Posted by Christine Keller on

On Saturday we did meet at 9.30 for a day of dyeing warps.

there were 11 students in the beautiful Presbyterian church hall in Mosgiel. What a fantastic venue!

Each colour player did tie and dye three warps to be woven later as a colour piece.

We had a big variety of colours (photos to follow soon) and had a great fun day. We could do the dyeing outside as it was a sunny day with lunch outside in the sun!!!

Besides a demonstration on warp painting and printing there was also a unit on colour theory.

There seems to be some problem with the colour fastness after fixing the warps and I will discuss what to do about this as the sample I did before was very colourful. Maybe the base solution was not strong enough?

However, I am looking forward to seeing some of the pieces woven and see how colours turned out.

Over all it seems that all had a great day.
